“The Journey of Life” a sermon by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

For the last two weeks we’ve talked about the Marriage Supper and what Heaven will look like. Through the eyes and ears of Revelation in the Bible we experienced what John wrote. Today we come back down to earth to the grim reality that we are not there yet.

When the children were small we loved to go on long trips. I hold the world’s record of number of times hearing my children ask, “Are we there yet?, and “How much longer?”

We are in the journey of life where, we trip on sin, are hurt by others, cars break down, we have to pay our bills, fight off sickness, grieve in loss of loved ones. We can occasionally have a bad day.  How can we make drive smoother?

“Bliss and happy music.”    “Life is a journey enjoy the ride. ”, the Toyota commercial guy said.

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Here’s a few one liners for your trip.

“Real men don’t ask for directions.”

“All roads lead to same place when your tank is empty.”

“If you get lost or if you break down call me.”

“When you get to the end of your rope tie a knot and hang on.”

“The fuel light should be called the idiot light.”

“Ever wonder why it’s called a check engine light?”

“No way could that check have bounced I just made a deposit”

“Never add your overdraft protection to your balance.”

Enough, let’s get on the road. Enjoy the ride.

 Four Essentials for the Journey

1.      Destination
2.      Directions
3.      Fuel
4.      Provision

Hebrews 11:8-11

[8] By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

[9] By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

[10] For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

[11] Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Hebrews 11:6    But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
