“The Run Away Bride” A Message to America, a sermon outline by Pastor Richard Daughtridge 07/01/12

“What so proudly we hailed at the twilight  last gleaming” , The Star Spangle Banner

“Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord”, Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Strange wedding songs? What does this have to do with a run-away bride?

Ever think?, What if at twilight last gleaming things had been different for America?  I pray Americans never looses sight of the rest of the story behind those words. Freedom was a gift from God, sent through men that prayed to God, and were inspired by God. I believe God truly has blessed America , which has been the greatest Christian influence in our world.

God has a wedding planned at the end of time for those that trust in Christ. It is not for Americans alone but for all that accept Christ’s gift of eternal life. God will call us home in his sovereign time through death  or we will meet him in the sky with all saints in the great resurrection. Regardless of which exit we take  there is a wedding celebration  being planned in Heaven. Now is not the time to be a Run-Away Bride.

1. Bride gets ready to meet the family.

Ephes. 5:27    That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

1 Thes. 3:13    To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

2. Groom is preparing a home. We will soon be  leaving.

John 14:1-3    Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. [2] In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

1 Thes. 4:16-18  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

3. The Wedding Begins

Rev. 19:1-9  And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: [2] For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. [3] And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. [4] And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. [5] And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. [6] And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. [7] Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. [8] And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. [9] And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Rev. 21:2-4   And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. [3] And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. [4] And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

4. When the words of The Battle Hymn lived out.

“Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”  Battle Hymn of the Republic. Such a climax will be seen from a vantage point of a bride or a run-away bride that has rejected Christ. The choices are clear and there are only two because “His truth is marching on.”

Run-Aways (Those that reject Christ)

Rev. 14:19    And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

Bride  (those that accept Christ)

Rev. 22:17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

In which of the group will you be?

Acts 16:31  And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
