“A Matter of Life and Death “ sermon by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

Deut. 30:19  I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

“Through  the cross you are justly pardoned for all sin.” (Legal)

“Through  resurrection you find power to begin life new.”     (Experiential)

Galatians 2:20   I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Matthew 26:28  For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Ephes. 1:7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

Col. 1:20  And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

1 John 2:2  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

1 Cor. 6:20   For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

2 Cor. 5:17-18  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. [18] And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Philip. 2:8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Col. 1:20  And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Col. 2:14   Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Hebrews 12:2   Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Ephes. 1:7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

1 Peter 2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

  1. 1.      Resurrection

Col. 3:10  And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

1 Peter 3:18  For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Ephes. 2:4-10  But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, [5] Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) [6] And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: [7] That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. [8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

What will you choose?

Bragging  Rights”, Sermon by Pastor Richard Daughtridge 02/26/12

2 Cor. 9:2     For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal hath provoked very many.

2 Cor. 10:16   To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.

I believe that, “Growth does not always make a healthy church but healthy church can always grow.”

 Ever heard theses sayings, “ Chip off the old block”, or “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” or how about this “Like father like son” ,and we can’t leave this out, “Stop acting like your mother’s side of the family”.

 I want to cover five things very quickly that I feel will give us bragging rights.

Biblical

Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Respectful

 2 Peter 1:6-7 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7] And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

Authentic

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Gracious

2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Generous                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Philip. 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Instinctive

John 16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

New

Romans 7:6   But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

Godly

2 Peter 1:3  According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Psalm 44:8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

Sermon 02/19/12  “Get- R- Done,  then come home.”  Pastor Richard Daughtridge

 “When we feel the heartbeat of the world we are one with God. He never misses a beat.”

 “Get- R- Done,  then come home.”  sermon by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

Rev. 7:9   After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

 John 20:21-23   Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. [22] And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: [23] Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.

Revelation. 22:12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.

 2 Tim. 4:8  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

 “Not what I do But who I know. I do through Him that  I know. “

“Witnesses of the Non-Believers” sermon two of a sermon series, “Was Jesus Christ the Son of God?”     by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

Let’s read together:  John 19:1-14

1      Pontius Pilate ( Words and political persuasion and what happened to Pilate)

2.       Soldiers (Did the laughter turn to belief? What happened next?)

3.     Behold the Man(The Words of a non-believer?)

4.      Jews ( What happens if they are only half right?)

5.      The Sad Witness of the Politically Correct  (Pilate persuaded by a mob of political correctness.)

6.      Unbelievers of this Generation  (No right or wrong just differing opinions.  Do all roads lead home?)

 Let’s read together:  John 19:1-14

1.      Pilate     (1.) Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.

(You like Pilate will choose to receive Him or scourge him.)

2.      Soldiers

   [2] And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, [3] And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

( Like the soldiers you will crown Him with a crown of thorns or  you will crown Him with honor, a robe of magesty or a robe of dishonor. Your very hands will smite Him or accept Him. Choose today. )

 3.      Behold the Man

[4] Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. [5] Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man! [6] When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

(Behold means see. What do you see?)

4.      Jews

[7] The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

( Judgement is now in your hands. You now judge the very death that was your sentence. Guilty

[8] When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid; [9] And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. [10] Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? [11] Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

5.      The Sad Witness of the Politically Correct

 [12] And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

[13] When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha. [14] And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King!

The Henrik Hudson School District Library Media Centre provides a model essay for students which ends with these words:

“Perpetrators, collaborators, bystanders, victims: we can be clear about three of these categories. The bystander, however, is the fulcrum. If there are enough notable exceptions, then protest reaches a critical mass. We don’t usually think of history as being shaped by silence, but, as English philosopher Edmund Burke said, ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing.”

 (Being a bystander is a vote in favor of evil.)

6.      What is your testimony?

A crown of Thorns or a crown of life?

A garment of royalty or a robe of mockery?

A knowledge of the humanity  of Christ or recognition of deity?

A law of condemnation or a law of love?

The passover lamb or The Lamb of God?

King of the Jews or The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords?

Matthew 28:18-20     And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. [19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Today we want to crown Him properly.
