PASTOR’S THOUGHTS : Having a Heart for the World by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

In a world that is filled with calamity and need we at Jacob’s Church want to obey the true definition of  being a friend. We are Christ’s legs, ears, eyes, and hands and want to go when called, as was the case with Judy. We want to listen to the needs of humanity and await the opportunity to relieve the suffering. May we never be blinded by selfish ambitions that we are no longer serving as Christ’s eyes and may our hands never stop working to serve others thereby serving Christ. Thanks to many of you that helped send her to Russia and may her stories inspire us all to feel the heartbeat of those that she touched.

Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Mark 16:15 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

1 Corinthians 9:16 “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!”

“In Search of Eternal Life” by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

We are promised __?__amount of time in life.

We as humans cannot fill in the blank. We wish and pray for long life.

We through breakthrough in medicine and healthy living can extend life but the reality is we do not know.

As a pastor being exposed to crisis and tragedy in people’s lives I understand how fragile life is.

We know that fragile life is followed by eternity which includes eternal life for those who accept God’s gift of eternal life. The Scriptures are full of such promises.

It’s always a joy to examine these promises from Eternal God.  Today we examine eternal life. Eternal life is found in:

1.  A Promise

Titus 1:2    In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

2. A Rich man’s dream

Matthew 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?

3. Man’s Justification

Luke 10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

4.  Our Faith

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

5  Symbols and Metaphors

John 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

6.  Word

John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

7. A Gift

John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

8.  Beyond Tradition

Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

Romans 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

9.  Right Standing with God

Romans 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

10.  Confession a fruit of receiving.

1 Tim. 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

11.  Foundations

1 Tim. 6:19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

12  Bargaining with God

Luke 10:25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

13.  Belief System

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Titus 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

14. Don’t get Caught In the Comparison Game

Luke 18:10-14 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. [11] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. [12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. [13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. [14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

15.   Belief is the venue of Eternal Life

1 Tim. 1:16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Eternal life is not available to man without a decision. God has completed salvation’s plan when Jesus was on the cross.   His final words on that cross were, “It is finished.”, now the decision rest with you. Will you receive by faith the gift of eternal life?

Believe in Christ and accept the gift of eternal life.  It is your choice.

You may say this prayer or formulate your own.

Dear Heavenly Father, I believe and accept your gift of eternal life. I believe that Jesus died taking the penalty of my sin upon himself and that God the Father raised him from the dead. I now accept his invitation to live with him today and for eternity.

In Christ name I pray.    Amen
