“From Simon says to Peter the Rock” by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

This Wednesday night Jan. 12th we will begin our Wednesday Night Bible study for the winter quarter. We will be looking at Peter’s first sermon in our study of Acts.

I’ve chosen the sermon this morning as a prelude to that lesson. God used a mouthy common fisherman’s failures and life lessons and turn him into one of the greatest preachers that ever lived. We will examine a sermon by Peter that impacted even our faith today.

Today let’s look at some of the things that contributed to  Peter’s greatness.

1. Simon meets Jesus

Matthew 4:18   And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Mark 9:5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

        6. Simon and the disciples rescued. Simon walks on water.

Matthew 14:27    But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. [28] And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. [29] And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. [30] But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. [31] And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

[22] Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
