“Wisdom searches for truth and questions demand answers.” by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

The characters of the Christmas story, the wise men always intrigued me.

Ever wonder why they were called wise men? What made them so wise? Did they carry diplomas or have titles? We don’t know. We do know they studied the stars and the scriptures and we know the area that  they came from but there is very little else to go on. It was obvious however who and what they were searching for.  We all search for truth about God. We are all faced with many questions that demand answers. The wise men found both truth and answers in their two year journey.

Today let’s journey with them with a mindset that we to will encounter the Christ child on our journey. Let’s follow the Bethlehem Star.

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Matthew 2:1-11 ESV Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:

“‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler  who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

Wisdom searches for truth and questions demand answers.

1.   The astronomy question. Science

2.    The theology question. God

3.  The power question. Politics

4.    The scripture question. Bible

5.    The faith question. Believe

6.     The obedience question. Worship

“Truth unheeded is like air unbreathed and questions unanswered are like an adversary ready to conquer us.”

May we like those wise men find the truth and worship?

The messiah has come to us.
