Sermon Series: Radical Expectations: God wants us to do what? Notes: “Love Everybody?-Three people I’m gonna need help with. by Pastor Richard Daughtridge 09/05/2010

Is this even possible?  To love everybody. How?

One of the most radical teachings of Christ was to, “Love as I have loved.”

“He obviously doesn’t realize how obnoxious and hurting some people can be. This is going to take some help.” Thinking of some people?

Who would be your top three choices for the most difficult to love award? You fill in the blanks.

1.____________________

2.____________________

3.____________________

Romans 12:9-10 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. [10] Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Sound radical? It is. So how?

Lets examine three people we are instructd to love.

1. Enemies

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

2. Each Other (Church)

John 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

3.  Ourselves

1 John 4: 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. [11] Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Three reasons we should love ourselves.

a. A Work in Progress   (Fine line between pride and confidence.)

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Ephes. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

b. We are Loved (Value of self esteem)

1 Cor. 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1 Cor. 7:23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.

c. You are not the same person

2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Psalm 126:1-3 When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. [2] Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. [3] The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
