The Little Fat Angel Fallacy, True Love” By Pastor Richard Daughtridge Sermon July 25, 2010

Write this down:  “True love is worth Discovering.”

Sorting through all the counterfeits, lets answer the question,”What is true love?”

1. Little Fat Cupid Angel Theory

2. Zapped Theory

3. Birds singing, Warm and Fuzzy

4. Soul Mate Theory

5. One with Nature theory.

6. What the Bible says about love.

God’s love is  Spiritual, Emotional, and Physical.

1 Thes. 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Three Greek Words  Agape’ Phillio and Eros-

Love is a part of our free will.

Three things that impact our will.

1. Faith in God

1 Corinthians 2:14 The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:7-11 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. [8] He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. [9] In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. [10] Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. [11] Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

2. Circumstances of Life

Romans 8:28-29 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. [29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

3.   Our relationships.         We tend to mimic how we have been loved or mistreated.)

Hebrews 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

1 Peter 3:13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

1 Cor. 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

2 Thes. 3:9 Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

  1. 4. The Word of God

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow (body), and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

Finally:

1 John 4:16  And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

You may know Him today.  He has a love for you that will change you. Will you place your trust in him today?

“Learning to Forgive in the Shadow of the Cross” by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

Today I’d like to answer three big questions.

  1. Is it possible to live at peace with fellow man?
  2. Will there always be striving among ourselves?
  3. How can we forgive like Christ forgave?

Vertical Relationships and Horizontal Relationships ( Our Vertical is with God and our Horizontal is with humanity. Notice the two lines form a cross.) Biblical  instruction on relationships  could be categorized as either vertical or horizontal.

The cross teaches us to  love.

Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you

Hebrews 12:14 -15 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

Luke 17:3-6 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him. And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

Matthew 18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

Luke 6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

Ephesians 4:31-32, “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Matthew 5:23-24 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Romans 12:15-16 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Luke 17:3-4 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

Matthew 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

“Food for Thought?” Sermon Outline 07/11/10 by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

“Food for Thought?”  by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

I love to eat. Our church has some of the greatest cooks in America. I’ve tasted the soups, pies, and salads that out of control could make a man literally as wide as he is tall.

I also love to think. I believe also that the right diet of proper thought life can make us bigger people as well.

I once heard there are three types of people.

  1. Those who make it happen.
  2. Those who watch it happen.
  3. Those who have no idea what happened.

“Most great achievers are great thinkers.”

1. Thinking Great Thoughts.

Philip. 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Philip. 2:5-7 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: [6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: [7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

2 Tim. 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

2. Dreaming great Dreams.

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

3. Overcoming Temptations Attacking our Minds

2 Cor. 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

  • Lust
  • Plots
  • Relationships

Healthy thinking is a dicpline of life. (Learned)

4. Developing thoughts.

  1. a. Write it down
  2. b. Rehearse the positive.
  3. c. Meditate on the promises.
  4. d. Speak your dreams.
  5. e. Develop a Plan and act on it.
