What if we as nations got a report card from God as a reminder of the responsibilities handed down from our forefathers and our faith?

What would be the lessons we’ve learned and how do they affect the dreams we have for our  tomorrow?

In today’s sermon,entitled the “Bells of Liberty”, we want to examine the important bell ringers that are the values that made our nation great.

The acrostic you’ll notice spells foundation. All these lessons played a big role in making America great. Let’s grade liberty today and vow to never loose it’s bell ringers.

Grade us as a nation collectively and grade yourselves as individuals.

“A Trophy, A Bible and A Pacifier” by Pastor Richard Daughtridge, Father’s Day Sermon / June 20, 2010

Today I have , from the Lost and Found , a Trophy, a Bible, and a Pacifier. The rightful owners and users of these revealing finds may be some of the men in our service today. Now ladies don’t think you are exempt we have pink pacifier, a Woman of the Year Award, and Women of Faith study Bible that could belong to some of you.

1. A Man’s  Man

Who would you call a Man’s Man and why?

Is there a trophy for such a thing?

You don’t usually associate Job with success or being anyone’s hero. He was a man however that could give us a lesson on being a good father, friend, male role model and even a success among his community.

JOB 1:4 His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. [5] When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.

2. God’s Man

Who would you call a “Man of God” and why?

I’ve always believed that the stature of a man was more reflected in his private life than his public life. Jesus had a lot to say about this. The most impressive religious men of that day were the Scribes and Pharisees, or were they?   Let’s listen to what Christ said.

MT 6:5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. [6] But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. [7] And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. [8] Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

3. A Wimp

We normally do not view the Apostle Paul as a wimp. He by his own confession expressed his double mindedness, weaknesses  and daily failures. In one place he declared himself to be the least among the apostles.

Romans 7:14 – 25  We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[c] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.

21So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.

Rev. 1:6  And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Don’t forget our community worship service June 27 @10:00 in the tent on the Ft. Richie Parade Ground, beside the Community Center. A number of churches are participating. Pastor Daughtridge will be bringing the message, “How Great Thou Art”, and Jacob’s Church children’s program, under the direction of Keith and Sheri Walters, will be conduction a program for kid’s with the big parachute. We’ll all meet under the tent. The children will be dismissed to thier program after the song service.

Who is my family? “You may be a redneck if _____________________? “ by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

Ever hear the statement, “You can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family”?

Any family members come to mind that you wouldn’t choose? Don’t say their name. I think everybody in this church is related.

Where I came from, if you wanted to insult someone just say something bad about their mama. These were fighting words. We called this family ties.

I got an email from my brother Dan entitled, “These are our relatives.” It was a picture of a dining room table turned upside down with a boat motor attached. It had two chairs nailed to the bottom of the table and two fishermen with hat and tackle. Painted on the side of table were the words bass boat.

Father’s day is next week. This bass boat story is a reminder to my family. We may be without a table this Thanksgiving.

So what is a family?

The North Carolina definition is Kin Folks. The l in folks is silent. foks

The Greek word in the Bible however is patria. It means: lineage

Jesus talked a lot about family. There were Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Then there was us. We were adopted but with all the family benefits. We are part of a great family, not only here at Jacob’s Church but in the family of Christ around the world.

Matthew 12:48-50 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? [49] And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! [50] For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Ephesians 3:14-21 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15from whom his whole family[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18may have power, together with all  the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

20Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Now let’s answer the question. Who is our family?

God’s Part – My Part by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

One of the greatest challenges of my Christian experience has to understand the sovereignty of God. Understanding the fine line between God’s part and my part is imperative. Let’s look today at two basic foundational parts of this relationship. God’s part and My part. We both bring gifts to the wedding for each other.

I know what you are thinking, “What could I possibly give to God?”

Christ’s Gift to You (A New Beginning)

Ephesians 2:1-8 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature  and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Romans 12:1-5 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. [2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

[3] For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. [4] For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: [5] So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

a. Good?  b. Acceptable?  c. Perfect?

Offerings and Gifts

Our challenge today is to give God our best. We know he gave to us the greatest gift.
