“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

When I was a child I had to learn these words in school. They seemed sacred. They were valiant goals set in forming the constitution of our great nation. These goals were a blueprint of a dream the writers had for their lives. Let’s examine them in the light of our Judeo-Christian heritage. We will find that these values, dreams, and ideals were founded in the Holy Bible. Through  this blueprint, we will see that the goals that our forefathers set, came from our Christian heritage. We began in fact , “One Nation Under God”. 

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice,

Is there a law complete enough with sufficient punishment to cause man to change?

The pages and volumes of the law of the United States, though, I believe the greatest in the world, are still filled with loop holes and ambiguous meanings.

It has been said, “Law and justice were meant to be negotiated.”

We have made the greatest attempt to be fair. But we are only human and humans are governed by their hearts.

As one writer wrote, “Justice is a matter of the heart and only God can change our hearts.”

Christ made such a change available through the new law, the Law of Love.

Romans 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

This is not some easy believism that someone thought up or some positive thinker self help tip.  It is a system that cost Christ, the incarnate God, his life on an old rugged cross. It is both historical and theological. It’s a justice in which pardon could not just be cheaply and  recklessly handed out. Justice had to be carried out. Christ became our substitute, the propitiation of our sins. That means our shame, and guilt, along  with sin’s penalty, was transferred from us to Christ. His righteousness and blamelessness was at the same time  transferred to  us.

Use substitute to replace propitiation in the verses below.

1 John 2:2  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Being the substitute, cost Christ is life.

The story doesn’t end there. Three days after his agonizing death, which according to the law, belonged to us. God raised Him, Jesus, from the dead. Christ then became the expediator and judge of this  new justice system. This system had a foundation of forgiveness, love, mercy and truth. Man by an act of will, through faith, could now choose this justice system.

God, through the resurrection, recreated the spiritual part of man which died  at the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. Those who believe and accept Christ now have the ability to change inside. Because we now have access, we can being mentored by Christ. Such relationship is now available through the Holy Spirit which is now sent to live inside man and empower change. This third dimension, the spiritual rebirth, is now offered because of the propitiation. Justice was carried out. Jesus became our propitiation (substitute). Our guilt was placed on Him. Our punishment was carried out on Him.  His righteousness was conveyed to those who believe and accept allowing us to enter God’s presence blameless.

I believe this justice is the foundation on which our national justice system in the United States  is built.

Faith, Democracy, and Justice need each other to exist, but I’m afraid that isolated from faith, democracy and justice will cease to exist.

Psalm 89:14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

Romans 1:17  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Insure domestic Tranquility,

The abuses of our world will only end  when the heart of man changes. The Gospel provides for such change.

If the Gospel is the catalyst for change, it is critical that the Gospel never be silenced. Letting freedom ring becomes our nation’s insurance of domestic tranquility.

2 Cor. 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Provide for the common defense,

Every soldier that has ever served freedom’s cause deserves our gratitude. It is not a contradiction for an Christian to bear arms.

Psalm 144:1 A Psalm of David. Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:

Our military has been one of our nation’s greatest assets.  American soldiers have paid a great price here and around the world to war against injustice and tyranny. This resolve and dedication surely is  rooted in the prayers and principles this nation was founded on. It started with the words of the Commander in Chief of the Christian faith, Jesus Christ:

John 15:13  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Promote the general Welfare,

The one constant that we find in every world disaster is American aid. We are described as the example the world follows in responding to tragedy and disaster, Such welfare is not limited to just Americans but to all humanity regardless of  race, religion, creed. We are the most giving nation that has ever existed. As proud as I am of that fact it still goes back to our roots and our Judeo-Christian heritage. Christ our Commander in Chief of the christian faith taught us such love for fellow man.

Matthew 25:45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

And secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,

In a democratic system of checks and balances integrity is an essential if we are to impact the world with democracy. Letting freedom ring requires all people and nations to have equal opportunities allowing prosperity through work and integrity never compromising ownership and rights established by God. This constitution defends and outlines such. We have a heritage of men placing themselves under a higher authority and petitioning God’s help. The learning, the work ethics, the creative ideas, the prosperity I believe come from posterity founded in our founding faith.

Proverbs 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Psalm 18:25  With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;

Proverbs 8:12  I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

Proverbs 14:34   Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

The beginning of the last word phrase of the preamble is a simple word, do.

What will we do to make our nation great again?

Doing is not about our salvation. Salvation was completed with what Christ did at Calvary upon our believing and receiving the gift of eternal life. Doing is about words like honor, justice, love, worship, prayer and living out what we believe.

These are the things that will make our nation again have a preamble built on a propitiation, (Christ’s sacrifice) that was the foundation of our constitution.
