Palm Sunday sermon notes:“Excuse me. Can you direct me to Jerusalem?”

richard2“Excuse me. Can you direct me to Jerusalem?” by Pastor Daughtridge

How good are you at giving or following directions?

Jerusalem -Name means: Foundation of Shalem. What does that mean?
The place is first noticed when Abraham was blessed by a high priest named Melchisedec.

This was about 3,925 years ago. It from that point became the stage of time and prophecy as well as became the true passion stage.

Let’s go there and experience the place that witnessed this drama. Let’s go to Jerusalem. How do we get there?

You must pass by now the Chapel of the Ascension

Luke 24:50-51 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven”

Go past the Church of All Nations

Matthew27:36 “And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray”

Go past Church of Dominus Flevit, which means The Lord Wept,

Luke 19:41-42 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, [42] Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

From there you will see the Via Dolorosa (Path of Sorrow or “Way of the Cross”)

Luke23: 26-28 “And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus. And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him. But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children”

Oh and if you notice on your journey see the mountain side carved out like a skull? When you see that you’re at Jerusalem.

The place in ancient Aramaic was Golgotha, the Scull.

There you come across The Holy Sepulcher A really huge temple. :Al-Qeyamah means Resurrection. Built about 400 AD

It wasn’t there when Christ arrived only three crosses, two thieves and a vicious blood thirsty mob.

Luke 23:33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

If you continue out the Damascus Gate you see a grave area. There is a Garden Tomb.

Christ however needed no directions. He drew the maps over history.

John 1:3
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Here’s how he came that day.

On a Donkey Colt.

John 12:12-15 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, [13] Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. [14] And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, [15] Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.

Oh but when he comes back to Jerusalem and he will he come:

On a Great White Stallion

Rev. 19:11-16
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. [12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. [13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. [14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. [15] And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
