Sunday 03/29/09 Sermon Notes, “The Real Easter Parade”
by Pastor Richard Daughtridge

The streets are lined with all types of people waiting for the parade to begin. The police cars, the sheriff’s cars, with lights and sirens in full stereo sound and in the brightest of color. Time to begin. The excitement and expectations have built for some time and now the moment has come. A little child shouts out, “Here it comes”.

Each participant in the parade highlights a specific community purpose. Today we want to spotlight the members of the Real Easter Parade.

Even though we enjoy the hats, the easter bunnies. the egg hunts and the parade of new clothes, today we want to highlight the Real Easter Parade.

Justice will lead the parade.

The first representatives in the parade are the law enforcement. The shield or badge that they carry represents Justice. Why is justice in the Easter Parade?

We stand before the judge. Guilty!!! Slams the hammer.

At Easter we celebrate how the judge changed our verdict from Guilty to Pardoned. How is this possible?

1. Through Grace

Romans 3:24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Titus 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

2. Through the name of Jesus

1 Cor. 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

3. Through the Holy Spirit

1 John 5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

4. Through God’s Promise

Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Then comes the Bands

Stars and Stripes Forever, O When the Saints go Marching In, are all being played with such rhythm that makes you march in your seat. Next week this parade will celebrate a new song.

The old Rugged Cross, He Lives, Rock of Ages, and of course Victory in Jesus, these will be the song celebration Easter.

Psalm 126:1-3 A Song of degrees. When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. [2] Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. [3] The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.

Rev. 14:3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.

Next are the Beauty Queens.

They ride on floats that remind us of Heaven.

Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

Don’t forget the Clowns

Psalm 126:2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them.

Psalm 30:11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

Here comes “The Real Easter Parade!”
